MCRP is a volunteer group concerned with the well-being of the Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary. It works in co-operation with the Sanctuary manager Parks Victoria, the local Bayside Council, and many other interested groups. It was formed on 21st January, 2003. Activities include mapping the sanctuary, monitoring marine life, photography, education, surveillance and compliance, inter-organisational activity, surveys, visits, social events and the natural and human history of the area. We have recently established a Marine Education Centre, which caters for all but especially school groups.

Part of the excellent crowd we had for our first Winter Solstice walk & talk. Subjects covered by our members included Aboriginal heritage and local foods, geomorphology, bayside natural history, megafauna , sea birds, rock pool life, foreshore plants and more. It was a success and many of those attending asked that we make it a regular event on our calender. Have you got a great UW photo you would like to see here? If so

Terry Valentine, Gayle Kiteley, David Reinhard and Jacques Cos braved the cold water for a foray at Table Rock in May and were rewarded with a great clear water dive. Since then diving had been very average indeed due to the poor weather, drains pollution and on shore winds.
We had another successful diving (and social) visit to Bali in April/May. These visits will now be tri-annual. Contact

for details of the next visit. Part of the location and recording of replica sea stars to test the observational capabilities of trained and untrained observers for Melbourne University's, Kimberely Millers, Masters degree. March 2011.. We also did a 50 metre snorkeling run as well. As you can see everyone can at least help out in the wading sessions. We had a great time at Quiet Corner, on Saturday the 12th March, diving for exotics under our new licence to remove such marine life. While it was fun, we only found one Japanese Kelp, and three fingernail sized Northern Pacific Sea Stars. Have a look at our regular dive logs under the site blogs sectionon the left.
