MCRP is a volunteer group concerned with the well-being of the Ricketts Point Marine Sanctuary. It works in co-operation with the Sanctuary manager Parks Victoria, the local Bayside Council, and many other interested groups. It was formed  on 21st  January, 2003.

Activities include mapping the sanctuary, monitoring marine life, photography, education, surveillance and compliance, inter-organisational activity, surveys, visits, social events and the natural and human history of the area.

We  have recently established a  Marine Education Centre, which caters for all but especially school groups.

Below,  a  few of the Marinecare members  at the front of Waterworx Dive Centre in Padang Bai, Bali.

Padang Bai is a beautiful bay on the South east coast of Bali - about an hour and a half drive from the Airport.

Despite being an extremely popular holiday destination and world renowned dive base it remains a traditional Balinese village.   A few of us snorkeled and saw a Sea snake, Cuttlefish, Squid and lots of coral and beautiful tropical fish. The divers were lucky enough to encounter a group of Cuttlefish,  Mola Mola sunfish,  and Manta Rays. [Image and comment from Cath Walker].

This picture shows the progress on the Bayside Council's valuable sand bagging effort at Tea House Reef as at 1 July 2010. Hopefully we will see the benefit as the storm season progresses. Already the water has been up to the lower edge of the bags.
Revegetation began on the 26th July.

On Wednesday the 17th Feb a few of us were privileged to snorkel amid literally thousands of large salmon in the sanctuary. See a short clip on them at Youtube.  This is to prove we were not exaggerating!

Phil Watson took this wonderful image of a sea dragon at Flinders Pier this week.  The bottom was rife with them.

This You tube vid is on sea urchins and barrens. We have a similar problem looming and we have begun our own science based monitoring project led by Kim Wright..

We will also soon commence, an as complete as can be, cataloguing and  photographing of all of our Sanctuary's Algae and their consolidation into a reference book. This is an RMIT University joint project.
